Frore Systems and Sabrent demonstrate record breaking 3x performance speeds in 8TB compact SSD accessory

At Flash Memory Summit 2023, Sabrent collaborates with Frore Systems, to showcase the industry’s fastest compact SSD accessory with AirJet®

SAN JOSE, California – August 8, 2023 – Today, Frore Systems, the maker of AirJet Mini, the World’s first solid-state active cooling chip, showcased record breaking SSD performance speeds, made possible by the integration of AirJet into a first of its kind 8TB compact SSD accessory.

The demonstration showcases the Sabrent 8TB M.2 NAND, cooled with 2 AirJet Minis, creating the fastest compact SSD accessory in its class. Without AirJet, the passively cooled SSD throttles to a sustained sequential read throughput of only 1000MB/s at a blistering 62oC skin temperature.  With AirJet, the same accessory experiences no throttling, achieving a massive 3x performance increase to 3000MB/s sustained sequential read throughput, while maintaining a much lower 42oC skin temperature. This amounts to a significant time saving for consumers who can now quickly move large files like video or images without burning their fingers. The live demonstration is on display at the Flash Memory Summit 2023 in Santa Clara, California.

“Sabrent has been a great collaborator with Frore Systems, demonstrating how AirJet is revolutionizing the SSD industry,” said Dr. Seshu Madhavapeddy, founder and CEO of Frore Systems. “Until AirJet, heat removal was the only aspect of modern-day technology that hadn’t changed in decades. Sabrent 8TB compact SSD accessory with AirJet® demonstrates a 3x sustained performance increase while lowering skin temperature by 20oC, illustrating the major performance improvements that AirJet is unlocking for the entire SSD industry”.

Heat is the single biggest problem facing the electronics industry, and SSDs are no exception. Until now, manufacturers have been forced to rely on antiquated thermal solutions like noisy mechanical fans or bulky ineffective heat sinks to remove heat generated by the ever-increasing workloads. These inadequate thermal approaches cause systems to rapidly overheat, forcing reduced performance, throttling after only a few seconds of operation, preventing users from getting the full performance and experience they pay for.

AirJet cools with breakthrough technology that meets the ever-increasing demands of consumers looking for fast reliable data storage solutions. The ability to store massive amounts of data is no longer limited to large corporations or data analysts. With the quality and size of video and image files increasing all the time, and new protocols enabling faster data transfer rates, the need for higher and higher performance is inevitable, just as inevitable as the excessive heat generation that accompanies it. Device manufacturers committed to meeting the evolving needs of their customers are searching for ways to keep up with the performance required, and Sabrent is leaning into solving these challenges.

“We are excited to work with Frore Systems to enable exciting new storage technology advances," said William Harmon, Chief Technology Officer of Sabrent. "Frore Systems AirJet technology will allow Sabrent to create more compact portable storage designs so we can give users more data capacity in a smaller enclosure.”

Frore Systems launched AirJet Mini in January 2023 and has seen unprecedented demand for the small, highly effective active cooling chip. The AirJet Mini is just 2.8mm thick, 27.5mm x 41.5mm in size, and weighs only 11 grams. AirJet is a scalable solution, with additional heat removal achievable by simply adding more AirJet chips.  Each chip removes 5W of heat, and the easy integration of multiple chips means two chips can remove 10W, three chips 15W and so on. AirJet’s compact size and scalable nature means manufacturers can adopt the heat removal technology in a wide range of applications, enabling increased performance in faster, thinner, lighter, silent, and dustproof devices.
